a use their stick, protective equipment or any part of their body to push the ball away, deflect the ball (in any direction including over the back-line) or stop the ball

This permits a goalkeeper to use their hands, arms or any other part of their body to move the ball away but only as part of a goal saving action and not to propel the ball forcefully so that it travels a long distance.

Any1 used this yet, have tried to convince all my coaches and umpires but nobody believes me.

Should be easy to convince them if they (or you) have got a copy of the rulebook handy - you could also print off the FIH briefing to umpires from [ur]http://www.fihockey.org/vsite/vfile/page/fileurl/0,11040,1181-178064-195282-111129-0-file,00.pdf[/url]

Hi Supa, I have done it in practises, but not a match yet. But I have umpired games where the goalie has used his left glove to propel the ball towards the sideline and I have also seen keepers do this in matches that ive watch here in South Africa.

The big thing here for me in SA is that your coach and the umpires at your games should know this new rule. Luckily all the coaches at our school play for Stellenbosch university hockey teams and they have a short briefing at the beginning of the every season telling them the new rules for the coming season. So no problems there. I feel if you are a bit unsure if the ump at your game/games know there rules, i would suggest that you go talk to them before the match and ask them if they know the new rules and how they will umpire to this, just making sure so that they know about this new keeper rule and that they wont blow you up for doing it.

So luckily my coaches and umpires here in the cape know about the new rules. hope you can sort this out! good luck for the rest of the season!!

I attempted that today and it worked  Yes, luckily I also had the other teams keeper who agreed with me and we both convinced the umpire.
