All news to me. Sally didn't mention it in Chile, I wonder if it's a men's event?

Doesn't this event happen every year? its usually for the teams selected from the US Futures U19 after the National Futures Tournament. The U16's go to the AAU Jnr Olympics and the U19's or Future's Elite play against the Canadian jnr's. it alternates between the USA and Canada.

More info here http://www.usfieldhockey.com/futures/elite/usa_canada_challenge.htm

Well, if you're going to citing the USFHA website, .... Wink

I didn't even know it was called the "USA/Canada Field Hockey Challenge." Had it been referred to first as the CanAms, I would have had a clue! Lol

I take it, however, that whatever the name, you don't know more about it either, eh? The USFHA website gives very little information and, as usual, the FHCanada website leads to plenty of dead ends, but no information.

Not a clue. The only time I've heard anything about the event is from junior umpires who get appointed and they talk about how much fun it is to umpire with people they don't know (both the Canadians and Americans) - it's often used as a stepping stone to full-fledged senior caps.

This event is slightly mis-named... it's actually FHBC teams vs USA teams.

BC and USA alternate holding this event, this year is in Vancouver.  I think this started in 2004 (but I could be a year off)

BC will be sending the following teams:  U14 (2), U16 (1), U19 (1).  The remaining BC teams will be send either to the Western Canada SG or the U19 Nationals in TO.

BC is limited by the number of teams they can send to FHC events so they (along with USAFHA) came up with this event as an alternative competition.

That would explain why I know nothing about it, being Albertan and all.

OK, that's a good start. Now would you happen to know the venue and times? Can I assume Wright Field? Tamanwis in Surrey? Cunnings in Coquitlam? Hamber?

You've pointed out who will represent FHBC. What about the USA?  Will they send teams in all those age categories?

It is at Wright Field (UBC).  I don't know the age-grades for the US teams but I think they historically have been a little older than BC.  Meaning, I don't think they bring U14s, just U16-19s.

Here is the schedule that I have, it does not include specifics yet (I am umpiring the event):

Tuesday, July 24:  Games 1 & 2, starting 4:30 and 6:30 pm
Wednesday, July 25:  Games 3 & 4, same start time
Thursday, July 26:  Games 5 & 6, starting 9:30 & 11:30 am
Friday, rest day
Saturday, July 28:  final matches, same as Thursday.

FHBC will have more information on this event at the time draws near:  www.fieldhockeybc.com
