Hi, I've recently got my latest batch of sticks through from Mercian. However I need to put an overgrip (Chamois) on there, i've bought some Malik ones off Barrington...

However I am rubbish at putting them on!!... anyone got any tips/ photos of how to do it?

Thanks in advance,

Start at the top winding in round towards the bottom.

When your winding it round wind it just about 5mm in the chomois grip!

might do a video for it but don't hold your breath!

As AndyGaut said, it is best to start at the top.

With Chamois grips, I find its best to overlap about 0.75cm - 1cm, though I am using the Dita chamois as a reference, which is about 3cm wide.

Make sure its tight! Wrap the grip around the stick one revolution at a time. Alway have a thumb where at the start of that revolution, and once you have made a new revolution, move your thumb up. (if you get what I mean).

BTW, in case you didn't know, chamois grips are reusable, once one side has worn down, you can take it off and use the other side...

I might make a video tutorial if AndyGaut doesn't, I have dozens of chamois grips lying around (I even found one in my school bag the other day  Confused)

0.75cm to 1cm overlap? isnt that a bit big? heck you would only get like 20cm down the stick. personally i would be looking closer to 3mm. apart from that basically everything they have said is what you want. the more tension you keep on it the longer it will stay in position so keep it as taught as possible. and generally do it as quickly as possible, since your going to change it after most games then it doesnt matter how good it looks, but you want to do it fast to keep tension

Well, I am just going by an old grip, and the overlap on it varies from 0.5cm to 0.75cm. I guess it does depend on how far down the stick you want the grip to go. I preferred to have the chamois end usually where my original grip ended, and add tape... all comes down to personal preference I guess - I use to always put two chamois grips on my stick (I hate having a thin grip).

Start by using a small amount of stick tape to anchor the chamois grip to the top of your stick.  Then with the stick upright and between your legs, put your left hand on the top and start turning it clockwise.  Overlap by roughly 3-5mm and keep the tension tight on the grip.  Works for me anyway.

well to lay a chamois grip i start from the bottom so it dosnt unfurl when you slide your hands down the stick. if you do it once losly so you know where to position the grip then do it again wrapping it tightly with a small over lap about 3-4 mm. At the top of the sitck cut the chamois so it dosnt have an edge sticking out, then once it has been laid down with stick tape at both ends of the grip wet it and then use a hair dryer on it. this causes the chamois to tighten meaning that you wont have to relay it as often.

This is just what me and some of my mates do and may not be to everyones tastes especially the hairdryer. But it works for us

IMO, the trick is in how tightly you put it on... the overlap depends on how thick you want the grip to be, but most likely putting 2 grips on is a better option (since you run out of chamois for the length of your grip if you overlap too much)  Happy

You can only claim expert status when you can work walk from the car park to the clubrooms, whilst taking off the old chamois, applying new chamois and holding a conversation with the person beside you.
