Using the powers newly vested in me as moderator, I thought I'd start this topic to list a few of the links I've found useful to me as an umpire over the past few years and sticky it to the top of the section.  If you know of any others, please add them to the thread.  Depending how long it gets, I may add them into this initial post.

First and foremost, the rules.  Links to the current indoor and outdoor rules (and any updates) can be found from this page of the FIH website:

http://www.fihockey.org/vsite/vnavsite/page/directory/0,10853,1181-116516-117783-nav-list,00.html

For more general information on the rules, how they've changed over the years, who makes them and so on, look at the links from this page (also on the FIH website)

http://www.fihockey.org/vsite/vnavsite/page/directory/0,10853,1181-117396-118663-nav-list,00.html

For international umpiring (the briefings can be quite useful to us mere mortals too):

Other links:

Umpiring in England.

This section on the England Hockey website has all the info on how to qualify as an umpire in England, and how you go about getting promoted to more senior levels, plus some more generally applicable coaching documents:

Officiating

Also the disciplinary code and related forms:

Cod of Ethics & Behaviour

The National Programme Umpiring Association is charged by England Hockey with running top-level umpiring in England.  The website also contains a number of useful briefing papers and umpiring (and umpire coaching) advice.

Norfolk Hockey Umpiring Association is one of the county associations in England, the website also contains a few coaching/briefing papers that people may find interesting.:

I am interested to hear what the umpires out there think of the players, 'fans' and coaches 'reporting' on the quality of their umpiring?

I think that would be an appropriate new topic, justin, rather than tagging the discussion on a sticky thread that's about links. Go for it.

Is there a site where the umpire signals are demonstrated pictorially as opposed to being described ?

Please keep links directly related to umpiring.  I've jsut deleted a post about a coaching website as there didn't seem to be anything directly related to umpiring on it.
