I've been contemplating replacing my OBO HR with HC kickers, and keeping the HR leg pads.  However, this season i've started doing a lot of kicking overheads on 16yard DFH's, and they've been rather effective, and i'm being encouraged to continue doing them.  Now i have no issue kicking to and past the half way line from just inside the baseline(gives me more time to lift and kick).  Now my query/concern is that if i got HC kickers, would they have enough 'bounce' in them to carry the ball that distance?  I'm guessing not, so i thought i'd ask if anyone here HAS HC kickers, and does kicking overheads? How have you found them?

edit: just thought i should mention WHY i was considering the change.  I hear HC last a bit better, and don't give off as many dangerous rebounds, resulting in short corners...

surely that's just a matter of technique fella. I can kick those all day in any set of kickers!

I find the HCs great for kicking. In fact, when I did use my friends HRs, I didn't even notice a difference in how far I was kicking, its like Andy says, its just about technique

i only ask as i've never been able to compare the HC's to the HR's... I simply assumed that if the HR have a higher rebound than the HC's, that they would travel further... under the circumstances, as you say, it may be that Technique is substantially more significant.  I would still assume that you'd get an extra 5-10 yards at least with HR, but i don't know how much EXTRA rebound you are supposed to get with them anyway...

thanks for the replies.

When I changed from HC to HR I noticed a substantial difference (then again my HC's were pretty dead by the time I changed).  It stands to reason that any kicking done with HR's will be more powerful than with HC's (in my opinion there is a noticable difference), whether you actually need this help is another matter.  If you're already delivering the ball into safe areas effectively using HC's then I see no point in changing to HR's, a case of if it ain't broke, don't fix it.  However if you feel that the HR's would add to your game or are enabling you to do something you otherwise wouldn't be able to do then stick with them.

It's all very well saying that technique is the primary factor, and it is, but the HR kit is designed to give you that little bit extra if you want or need it.

50% extra rebound apparently... But I doubt that's going to have as big an effect on an overhead. I'd think your guess of 5-10m is probably spot on.

will try OBO pads/kickers for the first time this weekend using a spare set of HiRB the club has
unfortunately the kickers are split underneath so will have to get to work with some duct tape

tried them on last night and the first issue I faced was that the legguard straps are so short. I always avoided OBO because I have legs like tree trunks but I didnt expect this problem its a real hard job just to fasten them

First use of OBO kickers and legguards today. Liked the SP legs which were comfortable and suit my more upright style.

Like the rebound from the kickers but really felt a few shots hard. Think its because they are split underneath and are really a size too small for me. I wear UK 9.5 shoes and the kickers were a medium
