in men,  NED is, in my opinion, the overall strongest team.

in women, there's many chances, and the basis of the prediction is knowing what is preparing CHN. After the first 2 matches I'll be more sure...

my bet would be between CHN and GER

Has (women) China played Asian neighbors Korea recently?

I hope Spain win as I like their style of hockey, as for the women's Argentina are always strong so I feel its between them Aus and Ned.

Well, if by "always so strong" you mean they've been strong since around 2000, then you're correct. If you mean historically always so strong that can only mean the Dutch, Aussies and to a certain extent the Germans.

I mean in the past few years, doesn't matter what happened in 1988 as the team then has no impact on the current team. They will have a tough task against the Netherlands and Australia, but when it all comes down to one game in the later stages anyone can win it.

In a results orientated world, you play the style that suits your national psychie, and that wins.
Record books do not state it was boring to watch but who WON and who Lost.
I really like their style and composure and will to work together to win.

That may be so and i agree. But in Germany the more they win the more help hockey gets.
I can get as much out of a nil-nil draw as i can from a 6-5. In fact a 6-5 will worry me as it means the defences need tightened.
Maybe a European coaching thing as when i attend courses it is the defence we will look at first.

I agree with you that other teams are more attractive to watch. But to me i will always watch the Germans first, then the Dutch and the rest after that.
This also a reason why hockey will never really take off on tv as the best defensively organised teams generally win the tournaments rather that the best attacking team.

So I'm the only person who thinks Spain (men) will win the Olympics. Obviously I want GB to win, but with frexia back and Xavi Ribas on Pc duty the always have a chance.

nope, craggsy, theres two going for spain now. In the mens the top 4 countries in the world rankings are winning (aus, netherlands, germany, and spain) along with GB who are not in the rankings.

Anything can happen I still feel GB can get out of the pool then its pot luck with the semis and finals. If they won a medal I would be chuffed.
