"Skål" in Danish. It comes from the viking times of when they used to drink out of the conquered enemy skulls. (Or so my girlfriend tells me.)

Nic - dont know if you guys have the same in Sweden? maybe you can confirm this?!

C'mon people, the thread isn't even 2 pages long. Nic told us what it was in Swedish on the first page. I linked up a page that has them all. Why bother posting if you're not even going to look at what's come before?

Im sorry for not clarifying myself, what I meant to ask was if skål had the same meaning in Danish as it does in Swedish. Its not like the English language where the meanings are mostly the same. I have been to Sweden enough to know that you say skål when you cheers.

auf irh wohl in German

There´s a little spelling mistake, in Germany we say "auf ihr Wohl".
But more common is the expression "prost!"

in the oxford thesaurus cheers can be said as

in German:prost proist

is that enough??? haha!!!

And there´s another mistake it should be "Prosit!" wich is mainly used one the world famous "Oktoberfest".

In northern Germany we often say "nich´ lang schnacken, Kopp in Nacken!" esapecially when drinking a shot of our local speciality Korn. Roughly translated it means "stop talking, drink!"
