I'm just trying to give myself a lot of options.  Does anyone know of any male participants in the Futures Development program?  If males can participate, is it in every region or just in certain areas of the country?  Thanks in advance, Ridge

Not sure there are boys in Futures, but look up the USA Field Hockey website and they have details about High Performance centres and opportunities for boys.

Other than playing at high schools whose leagues allow it, I'm pretty sure the regional centers are the only thing you can do that's close.

Yeah, that's pretty much it.  If you go to a few of the bigger tournaments as well there are a few scouts there normally.

I'm actually in the middle of running our annual tournament right now. Only four men's squads, though, which sorta sucks.

Yes, USA Field Hockey seems to give lip service to the men's side of the sport but I haven't seen much effort to create opportunities for development for boys or men other than those who are at the level to try out for the national teams. Little surprise that a non-trivial proportion of the men's team members learned hockey outside the US and then moved here. Nothing against any of those players but it would be grrt to see more opportunities for boys, especially ones who don't live near an ocean.

Just found this news item on the USFHA site
http://www.usfieldhockey.com/highperformance/boys_development.html

Not Futures, but perhaps something you could look into Ridgester?

You'll be please to know then that Pat Harris is making a huge impact in New Zealand National League, pretty sure his top scorer, his Auckland team are in the final tomorrow.

G9, THanks for the info! Nothing near where I live, but this sounds like a great step.

I think there's going to be more than just lip-service paid, given Patrick Harris' monumental hit for six against Argentina in the gold-medal match of the men's Pan Am qualifier for next year's world cup, plus the fact that the leading scorer in American high schools in 2008 appears to be a boy.

This thread is all over the play Happy.

From boys futures, to vellnueve  tournament, to Pat Harris, to HPC, to Festival..... Rofl

hack a Lucas.....foul him before he gets to the D....Happy

Ridgester, unfortunately HPC is the way to go for now, try your best to get there, it's the best thing US FieldHockey does for competitive hockey. I'm sure more opportunites for male will start to surface in the near future.

yeah its a little late now tell me to hack at him.  he scored a lot against us at festival.  even though we were all in the same club they didn't play it like a fun game like the other eagles team did.  he and his brother went all at to show that they were good and they didn't need (or want) anyone else on their team.  they lost a few of their games because of that.  ball hogs like them are okay when they played in high school against girls but now it's just stupid
