Hi all,

I have been using a Kookaburra glove for a couple of seasons now, it is the full protection type, not sure of the model, but I guess it would be similar to their 'Blockade' or 'Gauntlet' products.

However, I have been finding it a little restrictive of late (and plus it's really starting to smell!).

I'm a defender and so definitely need good protection, but was wondering if any one could recommend a glove that provides excellent protection, but is less bulky?

Many thanks for your thoughts.

hey!

i use a zoppo glove its full protection including the thumb, once u break it in i found that for me it isnt restrictive at all!

u can also get the same glove but without the thumb protection but personally the full hand i think is best!

iv used the same glove for the past 3 seasons and it hasn't worn away at all yet which is not bad i think!

JTP, could you provide a link and/or image of the glove you're currently using (or one similar) so we can make a recommendation for something less bulky than that?

Hi Danny, do you know the model/style name of the zoppo glove, or even a link?

Many thanks.

I may have found an interesting option - the Gryphon Paw

Looks like it could be just the job?

I use the same Kookaburra glove but cut off the thumb.

I find that it gives me better control and feel on the ball and most of the time my thumb is not exposed to damage as it is tucked behind the rest of my hand and stick.

The trouble I find when purchasing a stick is that I could'nt find a glove without thumb protection (which i find unecessary and restricting) but with full finger protection.

eg this

http://www.barringtonsports.com/hockey/Product_Dita_Super_Foam_Astro_Glove_2008.htm

Although in searching for those links i have found this which looks like what I said

The Malik does look good as it gives whole finger protection. However, I am a little different to you in that I like to have my thumb protected.

I have ordered the Gryphon Paw, will post a review once I have played with it.

On a separate topic altogether azbedwell, but I notice in your signature you have a Malik Jumbo Deluxe bag, are they good? Currently use a Grays Jumbo, but would like something a bit bigger.

Thanks.

Still have the Jumbo Delixe. I think its a great bag.

I actually did a review of it here.
http://www.fieldhockeyforum.com/index.php/topic,1741.msg34455.html#msg34455

This was written after about almost 1 season. I've had it for two seasons and it is still in great condition. the bottom, where my stick bags normally wear out is still fine

If you want a big stick for everything then this is as good a bet as any ive seen.

Yeah, hoping it is good! Just need to ensure that whilst being slim, it offers enough protection, but I reckon it should having read the blurb on the Gryphon website.

Think it's new as I've not come across it before.

The Paw definitely is slimmer, so if that's what you're looking for it'll work fine.
