Ok so here's the low down on the new Grays GX5000 Jumbow Extra. Of which i bought from Holt and Haskell as they are 2 doors down from where i work (Always in there!!!!) Their website is http://www.holtandhaskell.co.uk/

Styling
Its as you would expect from Grays just a simplistic design that you'll either love or hate. Can't say that it was a contributing factor to my purchase of this stick as most Grays users buy their sticks for performance rather than styling. If its styling you want then i would suggest another brand.

Weight
The weight of the stick i have is a light but it seems from previous jumbows i've had that its not as head heavy and a tad lighter. Of which i actually like. Makes skills simple and fluid. As you can see from the picture the weighting in the actual shaft itself is again along the back edge making the stick lie with an open face.

Touch
This is where the new 5000 comes into the range aimed at players who want that bit extra from their bow but don't want the high carbon content of the GX7000. (Which I Have). Comparing the two together the 5000 has a much softer feel to it which makes it ideal for pitches that require that extra bit of control. I bought this stick for that and as a cheaper spare for my 7000 as i like the 'loose' feel the extra carbon content gives.

Bow
The bow on the stick is again the same, a 24.75mm low bow. Ideal for players looking for a stick to enhance their drag flicking. Only after they have mastered the skill with a straight stick.
There is no noticeable difference between last seasons bow with this seasons. I can only think that these have been minor changes to comply with the new ruling if any changes at all.

Hitting/Slapping
Well i suggest another stick if thats the main part of your game as the technique takes a long time to master. Once you have mastered the technique though its a nice stick to hit with and very forgiving if you do have the odd miss hit unlike the higher content of the 7000.

Durability
After playing for several hours with it there are only mild signs of paint wear. So i can expect many more hours of fun.

So i will conclude that if your looking for a stick that is forgiving, has a nice first touch, flicks well and is long lasting then the Grays GX5000 jumbow is definitely worth your consideration.

Styling 6/10
Touch 9/10
Flicking 10/10
Hitting (once mastered) 8/10
Weight 9/10
Durability 9/10

Good Review, I might get one as back up for my 7000 aswell. might use it on crappy pitches where high carbon sticks just wear away.

Really good review!!

Also thanks for putting up the photos from different angles. I get a bit annoyed on shop websites when they only show one view of the stick (which is usually not the greatest) so you cant see what the bow is like etc.

Very easy...

if u want to hit nice and flat, you must close the shaft a bit, if u hit with normal grip, the ball will either raised, or the ball wil not be hit cleanly... also remember not to close the shaft to much... as it will cause you to hit the top of the ball+make the ball go to your right+top spining the ball...if you want to hit a raise ball..its quite simple..as the stick itself made to raise ball.. (quoted from dragflicker)

It requires you bending your knees more, and swinging round the body rather than a golf like swing which you can get away with on a straighter stick.

Its good, an even balance between power and feel.
I honestly can't see that there is much of a difference between the 7000 and 5000 of which i have both.
