Altona is located just 15 minutes out of the Melbourne CBD on the shores of Port Phillip bay. We boast arguably the best WET/DRY turf in Victoria, which is easily accessible by Public Transport or by Car.

Altona Hockey Club is currently looking to recruit players for the 2009 Hockey Victoria season, to fill positions in our men’s and women’s State League 1 squads, and throughout the club program.

We warmly welcome all new players, from interstate/overseas visitors, to experienced players transferring from other clubs and right through to new players who have never picked up a hockey stick before!

We have different training programs and sessions, each aimed at the different skill & experience levels of our members, from State League One (SL1) the premier club competition in Victoria, through to new players of any age. Elite players are selected to compete for Victoria in the AHL, which is played prior to the beginning of the SL1 competition. On completion of the AHL the players return to their home clubs and compete in SL1.

We are a friendly, family oriented club, with one of the best hockey grounds in Victoria, clubrooms, canteen and bar. We hold a variety of club functions throughout the year including our renowned $2000 super draw, as well as formal presentations and social evenings for seniors and juniors

If you are currently playing hockey in Melbourne, or looking to move to Melbourne on a working holiday in 2009 and are looking for a club to play with please feel free to contact us.

For more information on joining AHC please contact enquiries@altonahc.org.au or send a private msg.

come on they fully stated all of this

"We are a friendly, family oriented club"

and

"If you are currently playing hockey in Melbourne, or looking to move to Melbourne on a working holiday in 2009 and are looking for a club to play with please feel free to contact us."

nowhere did they even bring up the hope for players to get paid, you have to understand that we have a lot of players from australia on the forum and they might want to change club and then no visa, payment, houset etc is needed

Maybe they can attract someone already coming to Melbourne for their GAP year.

Doing something is better than doing nothing.

Very social club !

I'm sorry if the state of hockey in Australia disappoints you, tsirimiri. We are but a country of 22 million people who have no professional hockey players, we just kick the worlds rrr's in hockey because we can and enjoy showing uptight little Europeans what passion and tenacity can do to 'professionals' Oops, is my National Pride hanging out a little too far? Shame that.!

The problem (friend) is that from some people like you with your way of thinking this sport is not Professional there.Of you also mean that in the Australian Premier League the palyers are playing Just for fun sorry but you are Dreaming and plz wake up.Attention!!
If you think that hockey cannot be a PRO sport sorry again but you must change sport.I as a person REFUSE to accept that in football are people more intelligent.
THE PROBLEM IN HOCKEY IS ( PEOPLE WHO THINKING LIKE YOU! )

also because you think you are very smart ask some members of the National Team of your Country If you know anyone..
And then you will see that Athletes with Gold Medals don't have the respect and the financial Support that they should have..

Plz mate WAKE UP
and help this wonderful sport to Grow UP...
And if you still stay in you thoughts... Learn that EHL is the best level in the World...and its in Europe sorry again mate and the Best Championship is Also in Europe AND NAMED AS

HOOFDKLASSE HOCKEY

if you still want to joke about me I am glad to hear from you

Cheers.

Gees chill out, seems you are very defensive and looking for a fight or something? It reads as a perfectly open and friendly invitation for those who are interested in all levels of hockey, whats wrong with that? Why would you expect a free ride to Australia because you are a "good" hockey player - are you that valuable a commodity anywhere else? If playing in a class comp isnt motivation enough for you there are plenty of other top shelf players both local and from UK, S.Africa, Ned for example willing to come down under, some UK Nat league 1's are even happy to play in 2nd grd down here. It comes down to this, for some reason you think you should get paid / incentivised whilst other local and overseas players happy to play as amateurs shouldnt? And pls dont bother trying to pick a fight with Animal he's an absolute legend round these parts.....

Hi all,

Sorry for the late reply to this post. In no way have I set out to avoid it.

This year we have been able to assist a young player Josh Coote from Southgate, Josh came over on his own to play a different style of hockey. We provided him assistance in the form of accomodation, and he earnt a little bit of money helping out with umpiring, etc.  In return he got to play in our league, experience a different style of game and play against a number of Kookaburras, AHL and JWC players.

This was a general advertisement for anyone who is wishing to travel to Melbourne, or will be over here for work. I understand that some players will be looking for money to play. Unfortunately and Rushman can verify this, unfortunately the majority of hockey clubs in Australia cannot afford to pay players.

We are offering the benefit of playing in one of the big four leagues in Australia (Perth, Sydney and Brisbane) being the others. However, it is not just advertisement for high level players.

We offer teams in ranging from high level to beginner. Rushman has mentioned that we are a very social, friendly club.

Quote
"If you are currently playing hockey in Melbourne, or looking to move to Melbourne on a working holiday in 2009 and are looking for a club to play with please feel free to contact us."

Basically what we mean by this is that if you are contemplating moving to Melbourne, or are in Melbourne and want to come join our hockey club - feel free to contact us.

Gnarlygk has hit the nail on the head.

Just an update on this post - Hockey Australia has announced that one of our former state league premiership players Jason Duff has been appointed assistant coach of the Kookaburras. Jason Duff, like brother and current mens coach Darren is a former Kookaburra, and will take on the role of National Junior Coach of the men's program.

His role will include the preparation of the 2009 Junior World Cup team, with the position to be reviewed after this event.

Formally responsible for the Kookaburras system & game analysis during the last Olympic cycle, Duff already has an intimate knowledge of the national program which will no doubt suit him well during his appointment.

98% of Hockey players in Melbourne wouldnt be paid, they pay because they love the game. Altona would be the Best club on that side of town and would no doubt welcome any player from the newbie right thru to the top player as both there mens and womans top teams play in the top comp in the state. This year they were the only club on that side of town that had both there mens and womans in the top comp.
So if you are comng to Melbourne, get in touch as Im sure they will look after you for a game or two. Think they have a Ex australian coaching there mens team to.
