Brilliant idea though, an other world event that we as spectators would get to watch.

Things like this would again be of interest to TV companies, so in my book more hockey on tv the better for me as a player/coach/FAN!

I think we need more tournaments where the weaker clubs might end up playing the very good clubs. Like the FA cup, so you could end up getting say an east midlands div 2 side playing a prem side. The good teams would see young talent and maybe poach it and at least allows people to play different levels of ability.

OR

Regional cups open to everyone. I know there are county championships but haven't ever heard of regional stuff.

World club championship will probably just be more stuff for the top sides, unlikely to get the grass roots involved... which needs more than just league and more formal tournaments than drunken 6aside over the summer.

Sounds good in theory but you only need to look at the HA cup to see that in reality players just aren't interested.

First couple of rounds are local without the NL teams included.  Most clubs seem unable to draw enough enthusiasm to put together a team for Sunday mornings in the local rounds let alone having to travel half way across the county to get thumped by a team three divisions above them.

This isn't about grass roots anyway this is about the top end of the spectrum. Hockey needs to get more publicity and more televised which in turn brings in more money.

This should hopefuly then in turn feed through the clubs involved to the youth etc be in terms of facilities or coaching staff etc.

More youngsters see top level on telly, more youngsters will get involved. Why do most UK kids want to play football? Its on tv 24/7 and in every school.

Get hockey on tv more then kids will know more about it and actively seek to get involved.

I think its a great idea

Sounds like brainwashing to me  Rofl

Still, I might be tempted to head down to Barca as it happens to be on a non-indoor league weekend.

I don't disagree with what you say here at all, rather my point was directed more towards Joe Cole's suggestion of a competition like the FA cup.  We already have one!

I'm all for more hockey on TV, and it needs to be generally available i.e. terrestrial television.  Nothing annoys me more than seeing the BBC cover indoor bowls or any other myriad of "minority sports" and then exclude hockey.
