Any news on who is actually going to the Trophy?  I know Lithuania have withdrawn but apparently Bulgaria are stepping in, however, I have also heard that there is a fear that the Turkish team may not show up.

thats the best thing about playing in the higher divisions because teams do not withdraw just days before the tournament however for us it would be good if a couple of teams withdrew from the throphy division because then only one team get promoted and one team get relegated instead of two

I don't know if we're going but probably not.... The players at my age I think are going for some tournament in Athens the week after those tournaments and I'm not invited in the national team of course.... we call it coach trauma...

And Turkey I think will participate...

Budapest could be little too far away for LTU.... who knows...

Hey There!
Here it is the news from the website of the tournament:
Withdrawal
Or even worse
The bad news is that Lithuania – at December 31, 2008 – officially withdrawn from the tournament! The good news is EHF asked Bulgaria to replace Lithuania and Bulgaria has accepted the invitation. The other bad news is that neither EHF nor the organizers got any reply from Turkey. There might happen that Turkey will withdraw also. According to the latest EHF regulations in case of 7 teams there will be round-robin system matches. We will update this site immediately we have any news/decisions from EHF.

I'm the team manager of the Hungarian team for this tournament but honestly, I have no idea what the future bring... What about Turkey? Maybe Zafer know something?

It is my first (and hopefully only experience) of this but I do find it amazing that teams will enter an international tournament and then only days before pull out.  Surely they would have known ages ago and pulled out early to allow for another team to be found.  As for an international hockey federation not answering any mails I find that truly bizare but I suppose everybody has their own way of working.  Hopefully there will be 8 teams there and a full tournament can be played.

Do come and say hello during the tournament Marzsenka, I will be the only one there with a Northern Irish accent I imagine.

New countries
Greece and Bulgaria
News After the very bad news (Lithuania and Turkey both withdrawn from the tournament) we have some good ones: thanks for the Bulgarian and Greek Hockey Federation the Competition Committee of EHF found two replacement countries for the tournament. At this moment it looks like we can organize the tournament still with 8 countries... . Meanwhile the final decision about the participation is not made yet but thanks Greece and Bulgaria!

NO COMMENT Baffled

Of course I'm going to greet you Bulsara howewer I have a little problem with the Northern Irish accent Lol

I think Rado said the Bulgarian team is going to Athen just 1 week after the trophy so maybe both Greece and Bulgaria have a fully prepaired national team. But this situation is ridicuolus...

The boys don't train now... and from I think 20th of December then was the last training... The coach is in Spain and I'm pretty sure we're going with 'the all-star' team constructed of one club players playing all the tournament and subbing for brief break...... Which in this company means the 7th place would be decided between us and Greece... With greater handicap for Greece.. I don't know their U21 team now but the last time they have beaten us outdoors in Slovakia in 2007 U21

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for mine participation in this tournament but I value my chances to 0.01% .. :D

In Turkey I think they have brand new sport chief and when they change the top man they change everybody... This is why Barbaros is no longer the boss of the hockey and I think they could have some organizing problems now.. who knows...
