I am organising the 2nd Regional Carnival for junior indoor hockey in the Hunter region. I am curious if other regions around Australia run anything similiar. I know the Western Conference of NSW tried it, but I dont think it was as successful.

Basically, 4 associations are invitted to enter teams in boys and girls, U13 and U15 divisions, and the event acts as a test event for the U15 NSW state titles which are being held in Maitland again this year.

20 teams, should bea  good day out.

Maitland Hockey Association
2008 Indoor Hockey Carnival

On Sunday October 12th, 20 teams converged on Maitland for the 2nd annual Invitational  Indoor Hockey Carnival for Association Teams. Maitland, Newcastle, Central Coast, Macarthur and Tamworth participated in U13 and U15 boys and girls divisions. Maitland entered 3 teams, Newcastle 5, Central Coast 5, Macarthur 6, and Tamworth 1.

Macarthur took home the title in the U13 boys and girls divisions, Newcastle secured back to back girls U15’s whilst Central Coast clinched the U15 boys title in a  thrilling match against Macarthur, which went to golden goal extra time and then penalty strokes to decide a winner.

The event helps Maitland Hockey Association prepare for hosting the upcoming U15 State championships at the same venue. At the same time, it gives all participating teams a chance to finetune their skills and tactics ahead of the representative season.
