I think the "weight" of the GX1.0+'s is just because of the moulded feel, Nic. I've put them on the scale and there is no difference in 'em. In fact if you want to put together a lightweight kit try the robo hi-control kickers and the hi-rebound pads!

Are the OBO leggys and kickers lighter than the Tk's?
(hi rebound and GX1.0)

i liked the old TK kicker tongue - with left and right kicker, and this fat tongue, with space for it on the old pads... Hit couple of times on the tongue - nothing...

If you have any problems with TK's straps and buckles you just have to pull them to the right/left part of the LG so the buckles sit near the front piece of foam and this way the strap will sit straight and won't loosen...

...the second one is just the first looser...

OBO hi-rebound pads and hi-control kickers are about the same weight as the GX1.0 pads and kickers. (OBO slightly heavier)
The light weight I was refering to is that the Hi-rebound kickers are about 100g (each) heavier than the high control.

i think i read a thread many moons ago on panda hockey that dealt with this situation.i have never used GX 1.0 (yet) so i'm not sure if this will make any sense to you but here goes.
instead of having the velcro that attaches the legguard to the kicker as tight as it can go make it as loose as possible, the elastic will still spring the legguard back to the kicker, and if you have your legguard straps as tight as posssible it should stop the twisting.like i said i have never used these pads or even seen them up close so if this makes no sense then ignore it,just memories from a long ago thread.
