Stats are a great thing when different people find different stats.

Come on, think about it, it depends who is in the news at the time and the stats will change.

Its a bit more complicated than that too many contributing factors to consider its like trying to say whether you should still design for 800x600.

Now there's a quote to underline lines, damn lies and statistics!

IE split into version number - FireFox not!!  IE combined verisons total = 50.6%

My work screen only has a max resolution of 1024x768

My home PC is 1900x1050 - my browser windows is only a quarter of my screen

Makes perfect sense to split them apart tho!  Tongue

IE 6 has different functionality to IE 7 (don't I bloody know it! Wish everyone would move to 7 cos then I can use PNG's and not S£$%%£ GIF's) Firefox has fundamentally stayed the same since it was released well apart from when 2.0 was released about 2+ months ago.

still even if you add them together IE is constantly loosing ground to Firefox and its worrying them! the extra few percent is probably because its already installed on the computer!

well at least its still web based Happy

You see though until FF gets picked up by a OS as the default browser and it becomes a strong OS IE will always have that head start... businesses (the ones with huge networks) always seem to stick with Windows, which means IE.

Well if you got OS you should have got the rest. We're talking like Thomas Cook that sort of company have large networks (systems of computers) all running Windows which Internet Explorer is included in for free.

Firefox is free to download but to my knowledge doesn't come included in other OS's like Linux etc so the only way the pick up users is by people downloading it and installing it which is not something you can probably do on these networks for security reasons.

So until FF does attach itself to a be OS it will struggle to beat IE, its competing but can it feesibly win?

Firefox is installed by default on many Linux Distributions, just to correct that point. Ubuntu , Fedora , OpenSuse all ship with Firefox installed.

In terms of Commercial IT, yes it's unlikely users have enough privileges to install programs but at the same time my university have rolled out Firefox to every computer in the uni. we arn't a small uni 20 000 students, and probably 2 000 computers on campus.

I stand corrected...

More likely because the guy in charge liked rather than a request by the guys at the top but I guess thats all it takes, the right person in the right place making that decision. It is a good browser just wish my plug ins would keep up with these new releases...
