Was Vice-President for a couple of years and then rose to President.  It's alright, but some times I feel at my age (20) I'd rather just be having fun/playing hockey than worrying about the running of the club.

That is exactly what a good president does, providing the delegees are up to the job!

Have ticked 3 positions,  Have been on Bolton HC committee for over 11 years and I'm not even 30 yet.  Resigned my position as fixtures sec about a month ago now as I no longer had the time, hopefully someone will take my spot and bring something new to our club.

Sadly too many people just want to show up, play thier game, go home. Clubs need people to undertake roles to ensure thier survival. I personally am involved with 2 hockey clubs (1 junior, 1 senior) and 2 hockey associations (again, 1 junior, and 1 senior).

I am president of both hockey clubs, I do fixtures for the mens association and run and organise indoor hockey for the junior association up the valley a bit, as well as coach junior club and rep teams. Its a hectic responsibility, but someone has to do it. For the mens work, I do it because I play I feel obliged to assist, but with the junior stuff I do it to ensure by the time my kids progress through the junior age groups there is a competition in place and is being run as it should be.

Anyone who gets invovled on a committee needs to be supported as the roles usually require a bit of time, you get little recognition from those who just want to play but you need to be thick skinned enough to put up with the negativity those same people who do jack didly squat like to dish out.

In saying that, dont let it stop you from getting involved. Incidently, if you have ideas, the committee is the place to discuss them!

Bang on Ausdrexler!!! We are really struggling for committee positions this season and indeed we really lack decent 'club minded' players. These days too many people just want to turn up and play and not even socialise with one beer after a game. This in turn leads to bad team morale and affects performances. Angry

I am currently secretary for my club, I frequently get grumbles about kit, money etc etc etc, why if it bothers people so much can't they do something to try and help. Repeated pleas for volunteers fall on deaf ears.

Very very frustrating. My thick skin wears very thin at times.  Baffled But for the love of the game someone has to help run things!

Sadly, majority of people aged 40 and below are all to often only concerned about themselves. To give up a few hours to help others is just not the done thing. 20 yrs ago when I was playing junior hockey, nearly every mum and/or dad helped out in some way. When I coach kids now, 1/2 the parents drop them off and head down the shops or the pub for a beer whilst thier kids train.

Its not just hockey, in Australia particularly, every sport is suffering from a reduction in volunteers.
