Personally I think rep points are overrated.

I think that might prove the point of all those who said it's run it's course...

But how many members actually post then and is the number of members just actually those who have joined.
What percentage of those members actually post and why do the rest not post, there has to be a reason?

I might suggest that newbies are not always welcomed with open arms and are often met with a somewhat frosty reception.

I think people are sometimes too quick to jump on the backs of newcomers when they slip up when really we should all be supporting them and helping them to settle in by making them feel wanted.

Just my opinion as a relatively new arrival myself.

OK, out of 2266 members, only 39 voted some where around 2 % voted then and that is supposed to give us an idea on what you think.

The results can be seen on page 1.
Yes    - 22 (56.4%)
No    - 10 (25.6%)
Don't Know    - 4 (10.3%)
Didn't know it ran    - 3 (7.7%)

Total Voters: 39

Poor thread and that tells you how interested we are in things that give yourself credit.

Or, if you prefer:

Yes - 22 (0.97%)
No - 10 (0.44%)
Don't know - 4 (0.18%)
Didn't know it ran - 3 (0.13%)
Really don't give a stuff - 2,227 (98.28%)

I think the "Really don't give a stuffs" win the vote easily...!

Happy

Come on, red, let's break down the numbers down meaningfully. Wink

Lots of people have a misconception that membership = participation and we've had the debate before as to what that means. In fact, Neo found us statistical proof that the two
simply don't correlate
.

FYI:  As of end of august, number of members in each group, and the required number of posts to be a member.

MEMBERSHIP GROUP   Members   Required No of Posts
Junior Player               1445           0
Reserve Player             238           10
First-team Player          78           50
Senior Player               75           100
Veteran Player             39           250
Club Captain               16           500
National Team Player    14           1000
National Team Captain  18           2000

So as of August 2008, of an overall membership count of 1923, a full 75% of those members have barely posted if at all. I'm not saying they wouldn't be counted in some "don't care" category as obviously they don't - they don't even care enough to post at all.

We could make allowances for the 2.4 people per day who signed up in the couple of weeks prior to this statistical snapshot and simply hadn't had time to generate more than 10 posts - so if that's 35 people in 2 weeks, 25% of them would likely turn out to be contributing members instead of letting their membership languish, so we'll add 9 members to the 478 who we'll categorize as contributing members - 487 still keeps us at 25% of 1923.

So adjusted to present day numbers of 2267 overall members, 25% of that is 567 members who you could reasonably expect to vote in this poll and the other one you're complaining bitterly about.
That's actually a 7% participation rate.

On this question, that means that 4% of a meaningful polling group expressed a desire to keep MOTM, bringing me to the same conclusion as red.

But with way more math. Which was really fun, BTW. Then again, I don't get out much.

Wink

Not at all - MOTM is about giving each other credit. I guess when we "give a stuff" about that, we give each other rep points. Unless they've been blatantly purchased, as in my case.
