Hi, I wonder if any of you are in the same position as me. Im approx 5ft8 and seem to be stuck between what size of stick to play with. I find a 37.5 better for hitting and flicking but find a 36.5 better for close control and skills. Is anyone else of the same opinion or am i just weird??!!

No I'm 6' and I find a 37.5 much better for tackling and a 36.5 much better for hitting.  No rhyme or reason why and I don't think I hit the ball any harder with the shorter stick, it just feels that way.

I'm 6'1" and i used to use a 37.5 which was great in defence as, at the time i felt it gave me more of a reach (how much the extra inch can help is questionable?). For hitting and close ball controll i would move my left hand down and leave the extra inch sticking out at the top and then for defending use it at full extension. But then i got a 36.5 and just got used to that. The things u do better are probly jst psychological?

Hear in South Africa, nearly everyone plays with a 37.5, unless they very short or very tall. I heard that most of the Dutch team plays with 36.5's for the extra stickwork, is that jsut a rumor? I've never tried a 36.5, how much control benifits do you think one gets minus the inch?

G Star, I currently play with a 37.5" stick but before that have switched back and forth between that size and 36.5" which people find weird as I am over 6'4" tall, there is no real reasons, I just prefer to play with a stick that feels comfortable and when you put different makes of sticks together as clothes they seem to have different measuring sticks so one 36.5" can be almost the same as anothers 37.5"

I've found that the shorter the stick the easier it is to dribble (i mess about with some 30" and 32" sticks when i'm taking juniors). I used a friends 37.5" and it was good for slaps, sweeps and pushes but I couldn't hit standing up. I was able to run a bit faster as i wasn't as crouched but whether it makes a massive difference I really don't know. I'm roughly 6ft btw.

bows make a difference too, the TT10 37.5 feels like my lithium at 36.5 cause of the crazy bow of the TT10 im sure the Grays Jumbow extra is the same.

I don't have this with 36.5 and 37.5, being 5'7" means a 37.5 is a bit big, but I do this with smaller sticks, borrowed my sister's teensie stick once and dribbled like a demon.  That could have been a one hit wonder, because it never happened again, but you never know...

Cragsy, just like you, I also find it easier to run purely because im not as crouched over as much. Slaps and sweeps are definitely better too with a 37.5 but sometimes they just feel a bit unwieldy to dribble with. who would have thought an inch would make all that much of a difference!!!!  Happy

maybe its time for something in between..... a 37inch stick. I'll get on to all major manufacturers today! ha ha

i say get the longest one you feel comfortable with, as you can always move your grip further down to dribble, right?

i had a 37.5 assassin and tried to do that but the spare bit of stick got in the way bashing into my big belly Tongue

36.5 is best for skills IMO and they are more important to me as a right winger
