pretty pointless i know but following on from what were the olympic keepers wearing,i thought i'd make a list.it was also interesting to see how many (presumably sponsered) obo keepers did not wear obo gloves,or at least the rhp.

pocztowiec poznan - tk gx 1.0
der club an der alster - tk gx soft
cannock hc - mercian ultimate
hc dinamo kaznan - obo sp
olimpia kolos sekovia - obo sp
grunwald poznan - tk gx soft
hc bra - obo sp hc rhp
st germain hc - tk gx soft
club egara -tk gx soft
hc bloemendaal -brabo formule xtreme
amsterdam - obo sp tk rhp
dusseldorfer hc - obo sp tk rhp
waterloo ducks - obo sp
kelbourne hc - obo sp
atletic terrassa - tk gx soft
three rock rovers - obo sp mercian rhp
reading hc - mercian xtreme tk rhp
western wildcats - obo sp tk rhp
east grinstead - obo sp hc rhp
khc leuven - obo sp tk gloves
hc rotterdan - tk gx soft
uhlenhorster hc tk gx 1.0
r c d p barcelona - tk gx soft
lille mhc - obo sp tk rhp
thats 11 obo user,5 of which prefer the tk rhp and only five over all using obo rhp
9 tk users with 2 prefering gx 1.0 over the softies
2 mercian users, both with different styles of legguards, and one wearing the tk rhp
and finally one brabo user.
these stats were taking from the starting goalies and don't have the subs(couldn't be bothered watching all the highlights then writing this huge thread).ican anyone work out the percentages i'm useless with maths?

Here you go:

OBO 48%
TK 39%     (7% soft, 2% GX1)
Mercian 9%
Brabo 4%

Interesting that some switch to TK HPs. Personally I prefer the TK over OBO having used both sets of gloves, but it's not that much a difference and I certainly wouldn't if sponsored by OBO!

Did anyone check out the top ten saves?
Some of the saves from Lille were excellent, although I think that one and two should be swapped around!

to be honest i cant see any of the keepers or players for that matter not being sponsered,it is a widely televised competition, what bigger promotion can you ask for a brand, especially in hockey.i know if i were in that comp,my cv would have been out to all the companys.

If these are the best of the best in Europe and they are not using the OBO RHP even though they get it free or in some cases are paid to use it. Should we not be asking why?

not just a problem in the ehl either,i watched an english hockey league conference game on sunday, both keepers were obo wearers and presumbly on some sort of deal from obo,one definately has a full sponsershipboth wearing tk rhp.

edit;comment would let obo know who was one of the keepers identity.

From my experience here in Australia, Obo "Sponsorships" are often Pads & Kickers Free of Charge, anything else at trade price.

For National Keepers the deals are different.

Maybe it is the same in Europe.

From what I know, obo wearers using TK is based on user's personal preference. The modern obo rhp is designed on the basis of using the larger surface to block the ball with a wall on the shot; pushing to safety high shots stick side or steering away deflections, instead of bringing the glove across. Considering this, Cedric de Greve , was VERY effective in his use of the rhp; highlights of him making decent saves on high drag flicks on PCs. If you don't play that style, then you're not exactly going to sacrifice performance for money/'fame' etc.

A LOT of keepers on the national scene prefer the TK design for stick use - lower to ground, smaller and more effective use of the stick for clearances and tackles.  I know someone kitted out in obo who also wears the TK rhp - doesn't like the bulk, and technique is harder for low saves. If you are well known (ie international/high domestic level...) and promote the product, sponsors are happy for the user to wear a fit bits of kit outside their range because they prefer it, as long as they are forewarned. Think of Beth Storry and Paul Woolford, both strong players in their own right, at the Olympics; both wore obo body armour, and Storry wore the high control rhp, which offers better low to ground status (she likes to log a lot!). However, as TK gloves are sold in pairs (unlike obo), not sure how you'd acquire it.

Reserve keeper at East Grinstead I know uses the hi control, but has full sponsorship from TK: it's all personal comfort and goalkeeping style (ie use of the rhp for stick tickles, interceptions and the like). In essence, you shouldn't change it if it works: basics stay the same at the top.

Yep, you're right, Storry's sponsored by Monarch - post was pretty ambiguous  Rolleyes. Paul Woolford is/was sponsored by TK (he recently retired from international play). The point I was trying to make is that both wear obo body armour and Storry likes to use obo's rhp.

Sponors are rarely worried about box, shorts, armour etc. as you don't really see it. Great if you use theirs but oh well if you don't kind of attitude.

I have found that: as you as overall it looks like you're wearing their range of kit. I suppose it doesn't matter as long as you're promoting their product.  Wink
