i played against a keeper a couple of weeks ago who when he made a save was jumping out shouting "yes"etc,so i wondered does anyone else ever do/come across this,i personally would feel a bit of a d**k,i just want to get on with the game and think the only thing to celebrate is a goal from your team.having said that i am a little upset if i don't get a "nice save keeps" etc from my team when i do make a decent save.

If I save a flick, I'll allow myself a little "get in" or a "yes"

But apart from that - I just get on with my job! Chances are if you've just made a save you've got a rebound or a long or short corner to deal with!

only ever celebrated the odd save in training with my mates (as a joke usually) - don't really think about it in games cos as philthy says you tend to have more to deal with and surely it will just wind everyone up. would also look very stupid if you then conceed when you've been making cocky celebrations...

Having watched quite a lot of the Euro Hockey league footage, both this year and last, i would have to say that celebrating of saves seems to be happening quite regularly. (the Spanish? keepers seem to be mad for it!)

I can understand why some keepers feel that a good save is equally as important as a striker scoring a goal, but does it really need to be celebrated in the same manner??

Personally i don't feel the need to make a big song and dance about it, as really i am just doing my job. I always appreciate a 'great save keeps' or pat on the back from one of the defenders, and really i think that is all it needs!

most of the time there is no need for celebration but in cases where you for example have made 2 vs gk/PS save i think you have the right to do something what i normaly do is just cloising my fist hard around my stick and say "yes" but thats about it

danjuan you sound the same type of person as me.as for saves on 2 vs gk i think i my attention would be a little more diverted to bollocking the defense for allowing it rather than thinking what a good save i've just made.on strokes i can't remember celebrating saving one,to be honest i'd find it pretty embarassing stood there shouting "yes" while everyone was watching me,it's not that i'm shy as i celebrate goals especially important ones with real enthusiasm,i just think celebrating saves is a little self indulgent.

ive only ever celebrated once! Lol i didnt even plan to do it.. i was extremely proud of my lob save.. striker at the top of the D i was back peddling when the striker went for the lob i dived backwards and tipped it over the bar. thats the only time ive ever celebrated.. i get more out of the opposition attackers saying "great save keeper"  than i would congratulating myself Happy

the only times i have celebrated saving goals was in a Penalty shootout and I seved 3 out of 5 goals the first time and 3 out of 4 the last time!

I was like

"yaaaaaaaas," when I saved the last flicks!!  Yes

but apart from that I dont really celebrate saving goals!

I wouldn't in a match. I would wait for people to start talking about it after the game though! Lol!

our mentaltraining coach told us its actually very important to celebrate when you do good things (even if its just a pass or something simple) and its also very important to tell others when they do good because it helps to spread a good atmosphere

personal celebration dont have to be something that other people notice it can just be something simple as closing your fist hard or raise your hand the reason its important is because when your not doing good you can use this celebration to try to get you in to the good atmosphere same thing as visualising yourself doing something good so the mental part is a huuuuuuuge part of todays toplevel athletes

a god example of a mental thing which seems so weird but still is true is a couple of swedish icehockey players who always played better after christmas so the coach and players decided to celebrate christmas one and a half month before christmas every year just to build up the players in the right mood it might seem very childish but whatever makes you preform better is something good i know players who always shower before the game because that sets them in the right mood etc

i'm always open to new suggestions but i really can't get my head around this one celebrating passes.i'm not trying to be dismissive of your thinking nic as i think you usually give good advice and i have put some of your advice into practice before.however i can't agree with you on this one, personally i respond to a quick boot up the backside when i'm playing poorly but each to their own i suppose. Confused

when i used to play in goal, used to find that after the game was a really nice time to have your acheivements acknowledged. there is time to do so, and you dont look all cocky by making a deal about it on the pitch.

Players do notice the keepers input a huge amount in general... and always comes into my MOTM voting alongside someone scoring an awesome goal

bigmick

yes ofcourse mentaltraining is about finding what fits you and go for it even if it might seem weird, some people plays the best if they go and visit their mother the day before a game and then thats something they should keep on doing, some players plays well when they get encouragement and some players plays best when the coach screams his/her lugns out at them

thats where it becomes very difficult beeing a coach because you have to know what makes every player perform their best routines are they key to victory and thats why its extreamly importnat to keep a diary where you note down thins like how you feel what you have eaten what you did etc because when you play bad you can go back and see what you did when you played good and see if you can start doing it again

personaly i play the best in tournaments when i get to do my reasearch about the other teams often i try to look at old statistics on eurohockey.org etc often the coach ask me to try to focus on my own game instead of all the other teams but i feel the best when i get to talk about what i know about the other teams etc and thats why i keep doing it

nic i understand you're thinking(i myself eat the same breakfast on game days until we lose and i change it),i can even get my head around the way you celebrate a save, but jumping up and down shouting yes after a save, even a pretty insignificant one seems a bit ott to me.as you have proved though if it works for you and makes you play better why shouldn't you do it.

The closest I get is that my sweeper is one of those people who can really recognize how hard a save is or isn't.  So she'll be all "oh, yeah, that was a nice one"  and I'll be like "I thought so, thanks for noticing".  But very calm and silly at the same time.

She'll also tell me "well that was a pedestrian sort of save".  I assume it's rather obnoxious to the other team, but it cracks me up for the entire game, so it's good fun.
