I think I've only ever celebrated a save once and that was a flick save in a final shootout.

Generally if I've made a good save I'm too busy watching the ball to celebrate, the best gratification I feel comes when the oppo striker feels the need to congratulate you.

bigmick im not celebrating for small saves and the only thing i do is to raise my right hand have a look at 1:40 in this clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=onzp3WZdJLU i dont think its over the top at all but i think gks deserves to get happy when they do something good just as forwards etc and as long as its not something that will get you out of focus i cant see how it would harm

i am also very quick to encourage players when they do something good and to correct them when they do something wrong especially indoor

I don't acknowledge my own saves. I do get pissed when I miss shots I should have saved, though.

tell me about it... I get soo annoyed sometimes when I let in a goal, that I know I should of saved.... some people say I'm too hard on myself, but if I want to play at a higher level, I feel I need to be hard on myself, and have high standards!

Should umpires start celebrating really great decisions then...!?  Like most of you it makes me very happy when players compliment me when I've made a good decision and I'll allow myself a little internal "yes" or pat on the the back if something works out, but I'd never dream of celebrating out loud.  (Just picture the scene: your great advantage leads to the deciding goal in a cup final and you go dancing off down the pitch celebrating...  Not going to look good is it!?)

I do think that it is only my sence of amazement at making a successfull save that prevents me from dancing a jig every time I manage to pull one out of my hat.  Rofl

It is the elation that comes from training bearing fruit and helping/participating in a team victory that fires me on. I find the compliments that sometimes come from opposing strikers quiet distracting on the field but "Great save!" from my oppo down the other end always gets me going.

Do other keepers find that everyone on and off the field is in awe of the copybook easy save (cheers, shouts and general carry-on)
and the absolutely brilliant bit of trade craft that you are most impressed with goes un-noticed by the mob?

I think it's more to do with the world-wide fear of making a fool of yourself by celebrating one minute, only to find you've dropped a clanger the next!

I celebrate them in training, but I get it all back from the guys if they score a second or two later!!!

In a flick shoot out I saved the decisive flick in a bad-tempered cup game by stepping to my right, saving with my glove and casually walking over to my team without breaking stride - quite a neat celebration!

Absolutely YES. I put it down to fieldies absolute lack of understanding of our art. A couple of weeks ago I had the Ump and oppo forward complimenting me on a fairly text book save and yet in the next half I pull off a 2v1 blinder of luck and magic and not even my defenders noticed!  Growl
