After reading about all the sticks that have been nicked (Best ever stick topic) I though I would start a topic on it.
Does it happen often?
I have played 35 years & never had a stack taken. But my son had one stolen is South Africa this year when we were over there for a tour. Angry

Not heard of it, but as the keeper (and therefore always the last to leave the turf) I have lost count of the ammout of sticks I have rescued and returned to their owners later.

Friendly forum mate ha

Nah I have heard of it, was it Nic who had one stolen from a stick bin at an international tournament? A group of sponsored players feeling the need to nab someones stick  Eek!

But as Kilmory says I have found a few in my time...and returned most of them  Lol Tongue

Oh yeah, an international umpire walking around with a stick in their hand doesn't stand out whatsoever... Wink

I know that at tournaments recently our coaching staff ended up with a large number of kookaburra balls, many of them brand new... They are the ONLY balls to play with though!!

Seriously, it hadn't occurred to me... I guess because umpires are under so much scrutiny from absolutely everyone at every moment near and not so near the pitch... it's more the myriad of people who are about a pitch before and after games - volunteers of all kinds, media types, dignitaries, family members and friends, fans young and old, local celebrities, etc. etc... it can be a total madhouse and credentials can end up being more a new-fangled type of jewelry than for security!

Anyway, enough hijacking... I've never had a stick stolen nor have I ever left one at the pitch. Putting on my business owner hat, I once gave a player a discount amounting to paying cost on a replacement stick as her "soul mate" had been stolen after only 6 months of use... but that was an extraordinary fit of compassion that I don't think should get out. It'll ruin my reputation.

yeah hargo is right i had my lovley zoppo zeta 5 indoor stick stolen in russia from the stickbin it must have been either the ball kids or the team coming on the pitch after our game, i didnt had time to get the stick straight after the wistle because i had to leave straight away to the media room for a press conferance because i was picked man of the match so i had some photos taken with what i think is the russian president of the hockey association

Had 6 sticks stolen in total. I lost 5 on one night after training when they were stolen out of my mates car, 2 of them were just backups and one i was using, the other two i had just bought that day at a clearance sale, back in the days of the tk+1 and cyber, they were both 75%off.  I got them all back from the local cash converter when a mate had been in their and seen them, he alerted me and them and i returned to get them back but without any proof those sticks were mine i had to pay £10 to get them all back.

The other stick was stolen on the side of a pitch at Bebbington on the Wirral. it was a beautiful wooden Gryphon which was my pride and joy at the time.  Needless to say my Gryphon magnum is never out of my hand when i have it out, its my pride and joy now and is fast becoming the best stick I have ever played with  Yes
