Hi guys,

I have been looking on this forum, and couldn't find much advice about fitting chamois grips onto sticks; I got one the other day, and wasnt sure about the best way to attach it to the stick (as it isn't self-adhesive) and also how much of an overlap should there be? (it is a Dita Chamois Grip and rather wide!) Also, I was wondering roughly how long these last, and therefore when I would need to buy another!

Thanks a lot!  Yes

You will find a bit of advice on the above link

Also you will get a fair bit of usage on it and as you havent got a selfadhesive one you can take it off turn it over and re-use the other side!!

Start at the top overlap about 3 or 4mm, depends on how thick you want the grip, it'll take a few attempts to get the angle at the top right to get no bobbles etc...

Then wind away and seal with tape.

just make sure you wet it before playing because other wise it'll last only about 2 months.

Just wondering; by making it wet do you mean soak it completely or just damp? Ontop of that, my gloves have chamois palms; are you supposed to wet these aswell? Mine have started to go dry, smelly and tear, so would that have something to do with it?  Confused

Thanks!

Palms of gloves made with chamois always disintegrate over time in that manner - it's just a function of the chemicals in your sweat + friction against your grip. You need to replace your gloves according to how much you use them.

Hi guys,

Thanks for all your help, I just had two final questions:

I) Is it worth soaking the grip in water before putting it on, or should you just do this before using the stick + grip?

II) Is it worth taping up the grip I am going to put the chamois grip over with something like sellotape, so that when you soak the chamois grip before play, the "undergrip" isn't also getting soaked?

Thanks for all the help!

I've always put the grip on dry, also I wouldn't sellotape the grip underneath as this is just likely to make the surface really slippy and may cause the grip to come off.

Also when putting water ont he grip just a little bit and run it down the grip, don't drench thing thing (unless it's what you like) I often play with a dry one!!

The only advice I would give, is that you stretch (pull) the chamois a little bit as you wrap it around, the tension this creates (there is a very small amount of elasticity in the chamois) will help it stick to the handle and will give you an extra cm or two of length.

I make it damp before I play because I like the feel but it depends on the person. I also Suggest that you practice wrapping the chamois few times by applying it on without tape.

Another tip is that People sometimes start gripping from the top while some start Gripping from the bottom. trying both ways to see which you like the best.

Always start to apply any grip at the top of the handle.

Two reasons
1  When you get to the end of the grip it doesn't matter where it is on the stick.

2  When you slide you hands up the stick (dribbling grip to hitting grip) the edge of the grip doesn't catch your hands.

Wet it a little before you wrap it on, my first one i didnt, it got soaked on a waterbased and expanded and became loose mid game, and make sure you wrap it tight as you possibly can

one thing id like to just say is that if anyone is looking for a self adhesive chamois grip go for a gryphon one. i bought one the otherday and was surprised it was.
although i prefer the dita ones as you can have 1000 goes to get it right and can turn it over when one side is worn, im sure some people like self adhesive grips so there you go. gryphon chamois.
