Apparently, I read this thread sometime in the past.. so now I am more than a little disappointed with my inability to act when this happened in a game I was umpiring..
Should have at least stopped time and asked the other umpire whether the ball had been pushed under post-slide or whether the goalie had landed on it... Sad

Disappointed...

Dissappointed... dont be. Heads up!!! at least you realised that a mistake or a 'situation' has happened... move onwards and upwards. Take the good out of it... you know its happened, now take the next one by the proverbial balls and get stuck in! Blow what should be or stop time... at least you know about the situation Happy

I had a similair situation in a tournament a few years back, I slid out, ended up on the ball (although I had no idea where it was) and the only reason the umpire gave a PC (I asked him) was because the forward hit me in the body and head a number of times, otherwise he would have awarded a PS.
I have to say though in my experience it is always given as a PC, I'm assuming the umpires are treating it as "being lodged in my equipment".

If you're getting hit in the body and head "a number of times", the ump should be awarding a FHD and a spell on the sideline for the attacker.
Where in the rules is there an allowance for violent conduct?!?

And if that ump honestly downgraded a potential PS to a PC because you were getting hit, then he might benefit from a spell on the sidelines himself, learning the rules.
Ridiculous comment by him. If I'd been the GK, the attacker and ump would have known exactly my thoughts on getting lumped by an attacker.

I totally agree and if something like that happened nowadays everyone in the vicinity of the pitch would know my feelings, unfortunately I was young and naive......
