Do ye tackel like a normal outfielder? I've only ever done this when it was a race to the ball, like from a long pass into space or something. in this case i like to sprint full speed then knee-surf the last couple of feet and sweeping it away.

Personally, I will only go out of the D if I will get the ball before the attacker. I don't want to meet him on his ground as I am easily out manouvered. If he has the ball, I'll meet him on my terms in the D. If I can make the ball before he can, I'll go for the sweep outside

my thoughts too, rutter.

the other week I was in this situation,  so I through off my left hand protector (for more control) and simply pushed the ball out wide for my defender to run on to.

umpire didn't have any problem, but am I actually aloud to throw off my hand protector?

You could, but I wouldn't. I got stuffed out left the week before last so went for the one handed aerial over the fence on the run. Perfection!

just the stick, so yeah.  Timing is everything, and your judgment of the ball, it's speed and so on, has to be perfect.  In my situation i described i decided to come out and sweep the ball before the forward had a chance to do anything with it.  If your timing is off, or you hesitate, you're stuffed.
I would challenge(and have) outside the D with a stick sweep/clearance where a forward doesn't have complete control of the ball.  Why let them get control if you're sure you can make the tackle.
In regards to control with your stick hand, i guess it depends what kind of RHP you use.  Ever since i changed to the OBO HR glove i'd had a lot more control with stick(was previously Gryphon EVO 2's).
