Hello..

I am a 42 years old male Malaysian. Played hockey GK since schooldays (13 years old) up to representing college/state. Working as a high school teacher now in kemaman, Terengganu. So naturally i get involved in coaching hockey too. Has stopped playing at a competitive level since 2001.

Recently i chanced in meeting my ex-students/players and they asked me to play as the keeper in their hockey club team . So what the heck an oldkipper  Tongue has been dragged out of retirement. Came across this wonderful forum while looking for equipment reviews before actually buying my modern GK kit. I would not like to embarrass the young lads with my dusty old leather/cane GK pads from the 80s. Since then its been great to be recalled and right now actively participating in the local hockey tournament.

Any senior GK out here? A lot has changed in GK technique and equipment over the years, what still holds true is that Gk's are a special lot. We are the ones that have the overall view of a game. Scanning the field for the duration of whole game while studying the opponent attack patterns and marshaling the defense. IMHO... that's why many retired GK end up as coaches. ...

Some say we have S&M trait, willing to take brunt of the attack and enjoying in the pain of being struck by missile like shots and the occasional sticks to the body. haha

p.s. thank to the all GK guys in this forum for the great GK kit tips, bought a TK GX 2.0 kit + TK 1.0 Body armor and pants.

let me see if my missus hasn't dump the old thing in the trash. She cant stand the smell of those old leather things. when i got the new kit she said it is taking too much space in the store room cabinet and decided that since i got a new kit... its to the dumpster with old.

I will post the pics later if it is still there.

oldkipper, you're not alone. At 39 I dragged myself out of semi retirement, bought some kit and am now wondering why I stopped playing all those years ago.

Might see you at the world masters games in a couple of years Yes

yes, playing brought me out of my mid-age rut. managed to trim down my bulge down by 2 size. wearing full body armour in the tropical heat beats being in a sauna.  Tongue
