Certainly you're not saying then that a lack of self confidence, or self-talk saying, "I can't save this one " doesn't affect your game either?

ninja GK,

if you believe that you can't save any shots then I suppose you will never be to let down about missing a shot...

that said, I believe that saying "I can't save this" would actually lead to you not saving anything.

i think that everybody would agree that negative thinking is pretty stupid?

'Pie your posts in this thread are truly brilliant.  And I'm glad to hear you're still having fun with demotivators.

My point exactly. If negative self-talk has an impact, which we can all seem to agree on, then positive self-talk must also have an impact on our performance. Does it mean we will be perfect? No. Better - absolutely.

Garli I read his book quite often on the plane and when the people sitting next to me ask what I'm laughing at I give it to them to read the passage I just read. It is suprising the people who read it actually understand it.

Sorry for not continuing on the demotivation path but I thought I had better be a little more understanding Happy

I read an interesting article in the economist about how optimism is counter productive in some people. If they don't believe what they are saying to themselves then they actually feel worse and it just doesn't help. Having said that i'm an eternal optimist. And to Magpie winning the lottery isn't luck or faith it is merely a very small statistical chance. As they say you've got to be in it to win it  Rofl

I use visualisation and i find it helps me. I go through the movements of saving a goal in various places before the game. Just a small movement but i find it gets my mind and body together so i move and respond better.

I deffinately aggree with this. i've heard a similar theory from some very reliable sources (none of which immediately spring to mind Rolleyes).
