So refreshing to hear a sportsman cut through the nonsense!

http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2009/jun/30/mark-cavendish-tour-de-france

a highlight:

In his absorbing and often riveting new book, Cavendish trashes the contribution of some former leading members of British cycling – in particular, Simon Jones, acclaimed as the UK's coach of the year after the 2004 Olympics. "He was a d*****d and all their scientific analysis of riders is complete bollocks when it comes to me. They kept telling me I wasn't hitting the numbers but look what's happened since. I couldn't give a f*** about Simon Jones."

What an obnoxious twat!
Those 'dickheads' have one of the best records in the world.
can you just imagine Roger Ferderer rubbishing Nadal or Djokovic in a similar manner?

He sounds like cocky track athlete.

Yeah but it's great isn't it? Usually there'd be some garbage like "yeah i've got a great team behind me and my agent says if i play my cards right i could be on a box of Cornflakes this time next year" zzzzzzzzzzzzzzclichezzzzzzzzzmindlesssoundbitezzzzzzz

Most top sportspeople bore me to tears. Mark Cavendish sounds like he has a personality!

Sounds liek a prick. Out for himself.

if so and so are the best - i'll be there, but if so aand so are the best - i'll be there!
im the best. im the best!

Funny how when these people suddenly start going downhill, they turn the people they branded 'dickheads'

He'd still get the award for Most Amusing Interview By A Cyclist On A Tuesday Afternoon.
You have to give him that much at least.

I might buy his book.

If thats any reason to buy his book - then you seriously need to look at your criteria.

Clive Woodwards 'Success' is the book for me.

Arrrrgh Clive Woodward...He looks like a smug mole crossed with SwampThing. Not doubting what he achieved, but in every team talk i'd just be thinking: "Christ, his head is so odd looking"

I used to work at the Manchester Velodrome where he gets a lot of sports lottery money spent on him to do what he is good at.

Do not get me wrong, the team at British Cycling and World Performers unit know that cavendish is a man of his own means, but to call Jones a " dick head " is wrong and I hope British Cycling bring him up on charges of bringing the sport into disrepute because without people like Jones and so on, British cycling would be no-where

I think we should give him a slot on A Question Of Sport. I also think he should be free to call who he wants whatever he wants.

I just loved his comments about "taming the inner chimp of negative thought". Made me think back to sitting in a classroom on england trials whilst they talked to us about all sorts of bollocks to us.

Heh heh heh...no.

Never had the pace/ability/concentration/desire.

Loved playing divisional stuff but going down to B Abbey on a friday night to get shouted at by some coach i'd never met before wasn't my idea of fun!

A disrepute charge. Are you serious? For slagging off someone who left British Cycling four years ago under mysterious circumstances.
Mind you I've seen it many times in hockey. Any bad word against the authorities, even if justified and constructive then it's a ban or a fine.

Jones was a sports scientist who was obsessed with numbers, like power output. Cavendish didn't have them. Cavendish said he wanted to win a stage of the Tour and be World champion. Jones ridiculed him sayig he wasn't good enough. He's now a four time Tour stage winner (soon to increase) and a double World champion. I don't know where Jones is.

And I doubt he gets a pay out from the lottery. He's one of cycling's superstars. He allegedly makes £1.2 million a year basic salary. He's got a lot of time for BC - his academy coach is still his coach.

He's confident. He can be a little brash. He says what he thinks. If asked if he's the best, he says yes because that's what the results say. He's popular with his peers, and always gives a lot of credit to his teammates for his wins. And right now he's the most consistently brilliant sportsman Britain has.

Unfortunately, if he becomes properly famous this country probably will turn on him as he's not nice and polite and coming fourth.

Mambo.

Get your facts right please, Simon Jones only left BC in late 2007, see press article as above?
