For interest I would imagine - and to promote the JRPCs, just to get their names out there more into the hockey conscience.

Why are their schools and clubs mentioned?

because at least they have some relevance to where they are in the country!

Alice Sharp from Belper, Jenna Woolven from Reading play for Mercia Lynx
However Rebecca Dru (also of Reading) plays for the Wessex Leopards

Even more strange is that Rachel Mack (Olton) plays for the Lynx, yet her club team mate Holly Chipman plays for Wessex.

Probably due to where they live I'd imagine.

You've got to draw a line somewhere

I don't see why you're so perplexed as to why they mention it

It's an England Hockey thing - that's one of their England Hockey affiliations - why shouldn't it be mentioned? In a way it's more relevant than what school they go to!

Does it not promote the fact that junior players now feed in from the JRPC centres not the mish mach of clubs, county, school, etc that was previous?  It basically tells younger players that in order to represent your country or play at a high level you need to be aiming at getting into the JRPC system.

what real bearing does their school or club have on anything though?

sure it tells you where they (might) come from - but why does that matter?

School and club have no bearing - of course all those glory players from the likes of Sir William Borlase, St Georges, Clifton College, Repton and Bromsgrove would agree.

As would clubs like Reading, Bowdon, canterbury, cannock.

No bearing on anything at all - ever!

Now of course people know you are stupidly taleneted and a future world beater if you play for the Mercia Meerkats, or the Pennine Pandas!

mani why do you bother asking questions if you're just going to be pig-headed about it when someone tries to give you an answer?

I have no idea if my answer was correct but my feeling is that England Hockey ARE trying to get the JRPC's on a par with the more famous clubs and schools.

But - you'll just jump up and down and make snide comments if I push that theory - so I shall leave you to your ranting.

the idea of a JRPC is to get the younger players playing together as a high performance group, it allows the younger players to experience what it would be liked to be involved in this kind of set up, and it makes it easier for England Hockey to get the best players that are eligable to play for England together and to have greater control over the games they play.

I am old and a parent, and have hockey playing kids.
Though not English.

But if they had been 9 or 10 and I saw a school that was hockey playing I would consider them before a school that played soccer, rugby etc.

In Ireland the school has to be mentioned to give them credit for putting all the initial hard work and hours into developing a player.

If you do not parents may over look the school and the kids lost to another sport.

it is today with which region they used to qualify for. chipman, does play for olton. however she lives in cheltenhma and plays for gloucestershire=west of england and wessex leapords is west+south west.
whereas i imagine Mack who plays for olton plays for a midlands county such as staffs, and qualifies for lynx.
