What are your umpiring Goals for 2008? Whilst the Northern part of the world is halfway through their season the South part starts in a few months.

I have three, and hopefully I'll get at least 1 down.

- improve game management skills by learning when and how to "get involved" in the game
- think more about my positioning when I'm on the field and how I should be adjusting it when the play changes
- finally get the second half of my stupid rating

I've got about 4 months in which to really work on this before the season ends. Sad While I can still work on positioning in junior league, it's not really the same...  Baffled

How will you know if you've been successful with your first 2, Cascadia?

I'd like to get back to my old club for their Summer tournament, which has, in past years been very successful/fun Happy

My ability to achieve the third? Tongue

But seriously, I obviously have no concrete way of knowing other than I'll feel a lot better on the pitch, and when situations arise that require the extra bit of game management or the extra step or two to really be able to see what's going on, if I can make it work I'd say I'm on my way. Happy Given that I've only been umpiring for probably 7 years, every 'A-ha! Nailed it!' moment still sticks out to me when it happens. I definitely feel better about the way I'm umpiring now compared to a year ago, so let's hope the trend continues!

Hopefully she'll get feedback during her rating process (1 more game to get her Regional) to this effect. If she sets out her goals with her assessor(s), they should be able give an opinion as to whether she met them to the standard she's being rated at (or higher).

Get fully qualified, and hopefully be able to play more than 2 games without having to umpire as someone else doesnt want to.

My goals for 2008:

  • have a solid tournament in Argentina and score high enough to earn a promotion to Grade 1
  • if I'm assessed again in a Prem match in England this winter/spring, earn a higher grade than I did last time
  • umpire at a men's domestic national championship, U21 or higher, here in Canada this summer
  • act as an umpires' manager at a domestic national championship, U18 or higher
  • help (even in a small way) mentor 3 umpires to their Regional certification and 1 to their Canadian certification
  • see 10 U of C Dino players (my alma mater) achieve Provincial certification
  • conduct at least 3 umpiring seminars
  • post at least once every two weeks on an umpiring topic on my blog
  • stay injury-free and fit for a full 12 months
  • have my Dad see me umpire an international match somewhere
  • disagree strenuously with redumpire on a serious umpiring issue publicly in the UC

As you can see, I'm a serious goal-setter. Or I'm OCD. Good thing you didn't ask about mid- and long-term goals!

I'm looking to get my badge back.

I let it lapse a few years back when I moved regions and left hockey for 4 years...

Even though I am not a member of the clique (as I didn't understand a word of that thread apart from spod) I am going to agree with Red on this.  My aim is to continue to give 100% and enjoy my sport because that is why i got into it in the first place.

Hopefully by doing that I will acheive all my secondary aims of getting my indoor badge, moving up a rung on the outdoor ladder and receive some good appointments preferabbly in a nice sunny climate with 6 days rest in between games!!
