OK I've recrunched the numbers... I think Wimbledon need to win EHL for ENG to get the third slot back.

I think they got two points in KO8 as both teams lost with a goal difference of not more than 2 (Polo 1-2; Terassa 0-2). But it makes no difference to outcome: Wimbledon need to win EHL for ENG to get the 3rd place.

I stand corrected By my calcs (which initially double counted the Mannheimer result) I see @redumpire is right! Simples (gulp) Definitely a case of counting chickens.

If Bod de Voogd had put his open goal away and Wimbo could have won in regulation v Mannheimer then all they would have needed to do would be beat OR in regulation for us to get 3 places. Conspiracy theories abound.

Willowsacorns .. If Bob had put his open goal away he would have got man of the match and had to talk to me, however I gave it to Gallema instead, so the threat of having to answer idiot questions has actually skewed the whole EHL!

That's what I did... however, @Sparky1 was correct in that I forgot the need to divide points from the Final 4 round by 2 so Wimbledon do in fact need to get 10 points. They need to make the final, but could lose on a shoot-out if they win the semi in normal time. 5 pts + 2 pts + 3 pts runner-up bonus

They do indeed... apologies for having misunderstood your post. The only way that they can do that is to win both games, either outright or on shoot-outs. The latter works because the overall EHL winners get an additional 5 bonus points, so: 2 x win = 5+5+5 = 15 1 x win + 1 x shoot out win = 5+3+5 = 13 2 x shoot-out win = 3+3+5 = 11

Apologies @redumpire, edited my post above before seeing your reply but there's an additional scenario: 2 x win = 5+5+5 = 15 1 x win + 1 x shoot out win = 5+3+5 = 13 2 x shoot-out win = 3+3+5 = 11 1 x win + 1 x shoot out loss = 5+2+3 = 10

All this maths is very confusing, so I am going to compensate by being louder and more partisan than everyone else. WIMBLEDON FOR LIFE

Damn it so its all your fault!!! haha just kidding, I actually enjoyed your post game interviews and commentary especially around Furste playing as a kicking back

Is that the case? I hadn't picked up that there were three points for a shoot out loss in the final. Thanks!

Here's the wording from the EHL website - http://ehlhockey.tv/regulations/ 4 Ranking Points 4.1 Euro Hockey League (the top 24) For each match played, the following EHL ranking points will be applied: Win: 5 points Draw: 2 points Loss with goal difference of no more than 2: 1 point Loss with more than 2 goals between the teams: 0 points Should any classification match that ends in a draw go to a shoot-out competition, then the winner of that shoot-out competition shall receive 1 bonus point, in addition to the points which it has earned from the draw. In addition the National Association of the clubs contesting the EHL Final will be awarded additional EHL ranking points as follows: Winning club: 5 points Runner-up: 3 points

Cool - thanks to the hive mind of FHF we will now be able to tell those at this weekend's Championships exactly what the situation is with regard to a third place in next year's EHL. Your help is greatly appreciated, @ironman (and others).

I will - I do the programmes for Holcombe mens/ladies (very reasonably priced at £1) so keen to start next season's catalogue of pictures......

Isn't there a 2nd tier comp that also gives points? And google says there used to be one, but it was last held in 2013. You'd think they'd remove that bit from the pdf about calculating points... If the aussies can enter eurovision, I reckon we should be able to play in the EHL too.

Yes there is, but as neither ESP or ENG have teams in that competition it doesn't affect the points that they can gain.
