well the last imht was also a bit of a shambles, no surprise to those of us who know the organisors, but still enjoyed it a lot despite only getting 2 games thanks to the Indians not showing up. would loved to have played in this years tournament.
i think this event is now recognized by FIH and they will take care of the management issues so we can expect a good tournament this time.
it was sad at the last one that it took the aussies to pay some cash in order to get the sports complex to switch on the scoreboards. its the same for our league game. both pitches at the complex have score boards but they are never switched on.
unfortunately when you play them the umpires are not! even in our game against our A's they seemed to be against us. A certain Kiwi player was injecting PC's with his back foot clearly touching the line, which we pointed out to the umpire (the bearded Indian chap). he did nothing and later told one of our players that its not a foul unless the foot touches the green of the pitch! Clueless!!
Umpired at the SA Masters IPT in Durban a little while ago. The South African masters teams were selected there and obviously we all wish them well for the world cup in August!
Peter, I would really love to be there with everyone and take to the challenge, but sadly I won't be there. We had a such a great time in HK 2009. Good luck with your endeavour. Cheers, Feral
Feral, HK was a blast. sorry we won't see you in London. hope you are still playing and will see you at another tournament sometime soon
The Australian Masters Mens 35+ and Womens 45+ are pretty good they toured our country to do warm up matches in the harsh conditions...some of them could keep up with the youths running 100 miles an hour...
they are fit if they can play in our near 40 degrees tempo....and play 4 games in a week...good for them
their other teams got used to it playing in Singapore last year. they didn't have a 35's competition in that though
i can say for a fact they can win a drinking comp if it came to that ...the after function was a killer with them closing the clubs at in the morning lol...
Yip. I had the chance to umpire the Australian grand masters when they toured South Africa a number of years back. I just kept thinking that, if I could still run and play like them when I get to that age, I'd be extremely fortunate and blessed. Must be something in the water down under.
have had a couple of days of training here in canterbury. looking forward to first game tomorrow v australia. i am number 2 on usa team if anyone else from fhf is around
peterwins - I am one of the coaches of the Aussie 40 womens. Saw your game against the Aussies. You guys did it tough.
schooner 69 just saw your post, our first two masters outings were tough going, but i was much happier with yesterday's game against spain. watched the first two thirds of your game with england, then decided to get out of the heat. hope it finished well for you. will look to say hi next couple of days
