    In Memory of Tony Stacey

As some of you might have suspected I have been in nearly weekly contact with Stace, sometimes over ten times per day over the last few years, starting about one year before I recived my mask. We didnt just discuss masks but our lives in general and its to my greaat sadness to tell you all Stace has passed away.

I had daily contact with him before I went on my vacation as he was about to make me a kevlar carbon groinguard, after my vacation I didn´t get any replies to my emails and I started to worry. During the last month I have tried to contact him through other people and today monday 2011-10-24 I recived the news I have feared. Stace died in his house about 2 months ago, as far as I know there are no known family members of Stace and he never talked to his family with me.

Stace was a passionate man who loved his work but also loved to travel especially to Mallorca whenever he could. He was a follower of Fieldhockeyforum.com even though he deleted his own account some years ago, but he read the forum every single day. Its with great sadness and tears in my eyes one of the forums anonymus members have left us. His tradesecrets and knowledge have followed to his grave and there will never be a Stacey mask made ever again and the quality will go unmatched!

I have never met Stace in person but we were talking about meeting up sometime and I sent him a letter this summer which I dont know if he ever read or not. I am happy for the knowledge and lifeadvice he have given me and I hope you all will remember him for his lifework www.staceycomposites.com.

Everyone who have a Staceymask out there please tresure it, I know I will!

Im going to miss you Stace!

    My god,

This has really hit me back. Since he made my helmet, I kept updating him on every time I took a knock to the head and re-assured him that I was still ok thanks to him.

We used to catch up every so often too Nic. A couple of months ago I had an e-mail from him to say he wasn't doing so well - I wished him well and never heard back. I'm so deeply saddened, but thank you for informing us.

RIP - A true great, and one of the true innovator's in the hockey world.

    All my thoughts.

Terrible news, got a bit choked up when I read it on Facebook. :(

To think how many lives he's saved over the years with his superior and high quality helmets, there will never be another Tony Stacey. I am truely grateful to him, he is and always will be a Legend & Forum Legend.

RIP Tony, see you on the pitch in the sky!

Wow. I was shocked when I read this. I was in contact with him and telling him about my helmet and how happy I was with my purchase. We also talked about Canada and stuff - had a few nice convos. I was going to meet him when I was going to the Netherlands for a hockey tour, but that didn't work out. But the service I received from Stace was ace. When I needed a screw - it was sent in a few days. Had a problem with my cage - quick response. It was amazing. You could tell how passionate he was about his masks and how much he cared for his customers. It is such a fantastic helmet. I was actually planning on getting a new one soon from him. There will be no other helmet maker like Stace.

Thank you for the great helmet and gracing the field/ice hockey world with your amazing helmets.

    RIP Stace.

If anyone do know anything about his family I would be very thankfull if they could PM me I have some things they maybe would want. However I dont think Stace had any contact with his family during his years in Holland. For those of you who wonder how I got the info, I have spent many hours googeling for info regarding the company and have not found anything but after looking through many many emails I found a old adress but it still didnt show up any info about the company so I mailed two of the companies based on the same street and this morning I got the sad news.

During my weeks of trying to contact him I have contacted several customers of Stace and all of the companies linked on his website.

Those of us blessed with one of his masks should take care of it well, with Stace gone he leaves a big hole in the mask market which I doubt can be filled anytime soon.

I have a hard time to understand my feelings because I feel so sad over a person I have never met yet have spent so many hours talking to I really hope he have gone to a better place because Stace only deserves the best.

    RIP :(

I first heard of him here and as I am not a goalkeeper have never dealt with him; but know people who have and people who literally trusted him with their life.

That is truly terrible news. Had been trying to contact him for a few weeks and as he was usually so quick to reply had wondered what was happening. This sad news has left me feeling truly upset, in all my dealings with stace always found him to be super super helpful and a true gent. I will forever cherish my Stacey mask. RIP stace you will be sorely missed

Thanks to Nic for PM'ing me about this as I don't often dare to venture into the goalies' area.

Stace was a true friend, although we were not constantly in communication, and there were some 'big gaps' in our contacts.
I had huge respect for his knowledge and dedication to perfection in his work, as obviously did many 'in the business', because some of them used to ask him to make special sticks for some of their sponsored players.
He was a true eccentric and privacy was of great importance to him, and I felt privileged to be regarded as a friend, with whom he did 'share' some of his thoughts.
Some years ago he had a near-fatal car accident, and was never quite his old self thereafter, so whilst this is a great shock, it was not a great surprise to me.
I shall treasure all the more my Stacey Custom stick, made to my specifications as a gift of friendship a couple of years ago.
As has been said, it is especially sad for the hockey world that some of his 'trade secrets' have gone with him.
I shall miss him and his funny comments.

A great loss for all of hockey. I know that he not only did masks, but did work on sticks as well.
He gave me some great advice which I will not forget.

    May he rest in peace.
