    Hi all,
Just curious to know what is the opinion of Indian hockey world over. Do you believe that India can ever be world beaters again?

    Cheers

no - that nation is too arrogant to think they deserve success, they are too arrogant as they think the Asian style is still capable of winning tournaments, and they are more bothered about power rather than success.

Sorry India - a cultural shift is needed to get some success.

But if every country played the same style of hockey then it would get boring,
Different styles mixes it up a bit.

Imagine if everyone played 5-3-2, then the sport would never progress.

    Well done Sherlock.

What I'm saying is that they aren't the worst team in the world.

No one accused them of being the worst team in the world - but with the current culture of Indian hockey, both on and off the pitch - they wont become world beaters again.

Jesus - its like talking to a remedial, Indian Hockey wont sort itself 'on' the pitch until the off the pitch stuff is sorted.
The players go on strike, the press dont want a foreign coach, the Indian coaches arent good enough.

You can give it 'enough time' - but in that time, the rest of the world is pressing forward - even England have awoken from their slumber and are now pressing the worlds top 4.
India simply are too far off the pace and with no signs of them sorting anything, it will be at least another decade before they can make any movement in the right direction.

    I can wait a decade.

The politics are only minor issues within the country.

The individual players of the team are great, just as a team they lack.

Waxxed - you are clearly showing just how little you know about Indian Hockey!

Politics in Indian sport is a major factor as to why they are continually failing!
Yes they have great individuals - but when the national team is selected on a quota system (3 from Punjab, 2 from Bombay, 2 from here, 1 from there, he's the selectors son, he's a politicians nephew, players given trials through bribes to officials) RATHER than on merit - then its a huge issue.

HUGE ISSUE! And not one thats likely to disappear anytime soon.

Time has already told........years of falling behind, no signs of progress, its gonna take a lot more than 20 yrs to sort this out!
