Just checking, the elbow guards do NOT attach to the armour the way the full arms do right? I can't see any point for the velcro straps hanging down from the shoulders to attach to on the elbow guards, and I figure they are shorter than full arms so you'd have to stretch the attachment tabs too far anyway right?

Thought I'd better just check in case I'm being blind...

if we are talking about OBO elbow guards then no, they do not attach to the body armour. The straps hanging off the shoulders are to attach the full arms only.

Played first proper game of the season today and I LOVED the elbow guards!

    Mini review:

I chose to take all the extra pads off the left arm and wear just the elbow 'cup', on the right I took the inner padding out (it is too tight for my huge guns anyway ;)) but left the forearm protection on in case I was a bit slow to get my LHP across if I logged on a corner.

The comfort was awesome in this configuration, so light and I barely knew they were there as far as flexibility and movement went.

If you are looking to pad down a bit, but feel like you spend just a little bit too much time on the ground to go fully dutch, these guards are the perfect thing!

At less than AUD$70 a pair, what have you got to lose!?

Get them. Now. Go on, go buy them right now!! Lol :)

I am not sponsored by OBO (in my dreams!) nor the hockey shop that sold them to me.

Thanks to OBO for another brilliant piece of kit. :)

    Hi Stretch

I'm also from Melbourne, so where did you get them from for under $70?

I'm fairly sure they were only $65 or thereabouts from Hockey World....

My apologies if I lie though, I bought a couple of things so maybe I have my wires crossed. They're definitely well under $100 though, as that was what my total bill came to with the other items (like a new OBO tight smock) came to!

Quick check of website shows a price of $99.95. They definitely gave them to me for less than that, and I didn't haggle or anything :(? All I can suggest is going in and seeing your preferred hockey retailer and seeing what they'll do them for!

I went to hockey world after visiting another retailer and smiling through gritted teeth as that shop tried to tell me they cost around $200!

I'm trying to make the same decision now. Having suffered a broken clavicle in my younger days while playing, extra protection just gives me a little more confidence while playing, even if I don't really need it.

What I'd like is to be able to buy a right arm and a left elbow, as I can feel the left arm guard slowing me down slightly on my current Gryphon body armour. OBO should make this an option, especially in Australia where it's a popular set up.

I've had my elbow guards a while now for training and playing a couple of matches in them do just thought I'd share my thoughts:

I wear them with all the protection on and I must say I love them. They feel very stiff and tight to start with but each time you wear them they get more flexible and not as tight.
I find I have more mobility than with the full arms but just as much confidence - with my big Obo shoulder pads on my BA and my short arms the majority of my arm is covered anyway with loads of flexibility.

Protection wise - they are as good if not better when logging and sliding than the full arms, having taken some awkward landings in them they really cushioned the fall. The inner arm protection is great and better than my full arms (which were the old version with just the neoprene in the elbow pit). I took a hard lifted ball to my inner elbow last Sunday and although I felt it it didn't hurt and I didn't even get a bruise :)

All in all - one very happy customer. Would thoroughly recommend them.

Just when I'd made up my mind Euphy! :-D Hmmm...so you think the extra protection the arms offer is minimal in contrast to the comfort that the elbows offer? Seriously considering the elbows but have never padded down before and am just not sure.

I never had either Kyle and always said I would be a full arms kinda guy. Glad I went for the elbows though. With all the padding in place they are more than protective enough and make arm movements so much easier. Do it, you know you want to.

I do Kyle - I was a bit apprehensive at first about making the switch and was going to still use the full right arm for training initially but after using them found they are so much better in terms of mobility that I haven't been tempted by the full arms.
Have you tried the elbows on? Maybe try them with your current body armour to see how it feels for you.

Apparently some people cut the bicep protection off their old full arms and attach them to the body armour to give a bit extra protection - so that may be an option if you don't mind cutting up your old kit? Not something Id personally do but worth considering if you feel your biceps are exposed wearing the elbows.

Ok ok...imma get the elbows!! I'm getting the new Robo chest so they'll suit perfectly. I've noticed I'm a little slow and restricted on my left arm so it should free up my movement and if I need to cut up my old body armour I'm cool with that. Although it does smell terrible!
