A few eagle eyed members will notice that a couple of months ago my tapatalk signature changed from 'posted from iPhone' to 'posted from Pixel 2' (or what ever that message says).

And it got me thinking what phones do people use, what do they want from their phone, what are selling points?

    Mine is a Samsung A5.
It is a black rectangle which does broadly what my previous black rectangle did (Samsung S6). It's more or less the same size and has higher spec slightly.
I use it primarily for messaging (whatsapp, etc) and accessing the internet. It also serves as a fob-watch and back-up camera.

The selling point of this one was that it gave me everything i needed for £30 a month less than the top-range phone. (S7 at the time) It is quick, runs all games and the camera is superb.

I am far more interested in phones now i have switched to android, I only used to follow the big companies now i poke around in everything. I am a bit of a tech enthusiast if i have any free time between my numerous daily bouts of hockey enthusiasm.

There does seem to be a growth in smaller manufacturers who seem to be able to create good phones benefiting from the open Android platform. One of the best I have seen is Wileyfox.

I did look at Envirophone when I was changing over, but they are simply too expensive at the moment. I really liked the ethics behind the way the phones were procured and produced, but they are only available through the Co-op in the UK and the costs were prohibitive for really low spec contracts.
I hope they become more widely available, but I am suspicious that the costs of creating a phone in this way will remain high as consumers generally don't give a monkeys who dies/is enslaved to mine the rare-earth metals in their phones.

I like WileyFox and I have also been looking at the Essential phone, OnePlus (I think they are fairly big-ish since the 5 and then 5T [i hope they use T instead of S in a spinal tap kind of it goes all the way to 11 kind of joke] came out) and Honor

    I've got a Samsung S7, which I got a few months back.

It's the first time I've gone for a 'premium' one, and will be the last.

My current phone is a Samsung A3 2016. Unfortunately after a car drove over it, the battery is now draining very quickly so I'm looking for a new one. (I now do have a curved screen, which is apparently very cool)
As replacement I'm looking for a small(ish) phone with the best specs available for under €300. This limits the choice to only a few phones and my search on gsmarena brings me to the A3 2017, so I guess that will be my next one.

My current phone is the iPhone 7, this will be my last iPhone. Primary use is the usual web/facebook/email/messaging etc, secondary use is app development

Can I ask how do you look for them? Just shop websites, Google searches or forums ?

The phone itself is fine, it's just that it doesn't offer anything above what my previous mid-range phone did.

That's fair enough. I justed for the better camera and cloud storage so anything else that it excelled in was a bonus. The fingerprint scanner location has won me over though

I mainly use the Gsmarena phone finder. And there is a Dutch website called tweakers where you can do a similar search which also shows the current lowest price in Dutch shops.

Btw, I use my phone mainly for messaging, occasional web browsing, some small games and as an MP3 player. And I also use it to call people ;)

Beside this forum and linkedIn, I don't use Instagram, Facebook or any other "social" media. So no, I don't follow anything.

Forums are social enough, do you use the Hockey subreddit? or is it just FHF?

Just FHF. I'll check out reddit when I have the time, but I think I'll keep it to here.
