What model of hand protectors are these?

Just bought a white obo hand protector off ebay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251038936290?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649) for £16 to replace the mercian sphericaly ended one I've currently borrowed from the club - hopefully to allow me to lay down without the stick poking in the air.

Does anyone have any idea which model of hand protector this is?

I'd say old robo or old cloud, not too sure :/ I'd guess cloud

That's an old version of the Cloud range.

I still have two pairs, they are Cloud 9's of about '97-'98 vintage but still very seviceable.

I didn't realise OBO had been around that long - I stopped playing around the mid 90's (until my return this year) and OBO didn't exist then - hand protectors were like actual gloves back then and leg gaurds span round on your legs ;-)

Out of interest - how old are the spherical ended Mercian hand gaurds that I've borrowed?

are they Mercian or Monarch?
I had a pair of those back in 1992 in my memory serves me correctly.

Grays did the the spherical right hands too - Think I had mine in 93/94ish

Sorry yes, they are Monarch! I didn't realise foam HP's had been around so long - my club must've been poor back then we were still chuffed to bits to get cooper ice hockey RHP's ;-)

i would of said thats an old robo! ive got a set of matching leg guards and kickers which are both robo

I don't think the ROBO came out with the Black and Yellow bolster, but I know the Clouds did

I think original Robo's (of that design anyway) had an acid bolster. Is that right? The acid that got outlawed for having green through it.

Why would something get outlawed for having green in it??

No idea. But I remember there being an announcement on the OBO website back in the day about the FIH banning the use of green in gk pads, and so OBO had to take it out of their gear and the acid colour didn't have it in it anymore. Pretty sure it was something like that. Can anyone confirm this or similar?

For a long time GK kit, like shoes and socks or the lower bit of a stick couldn't be green or white at FIH events (and some other events) - for visibility of the ball (or something like that!)

may be the case for the olympics, hence the black Mercian kit of the GB keepers instead of the usual Blue because of the Smurf Turf

I think we'll see at the test event in 2 weeks time what's gonna happen with the aussies socks and fluorescent yellow ball!

Don't know if it's still the case Nic. I thought I'd seen photos (but can't find them now) of one of the Aussie GKs wearing Green/Yellow OBO pads on green turf - so maybe it's been relaxed?? dunno - obviously depends on tournament regulations...

I play in green pads and kickers so I'll b screwed if it changed again xD
