Are there any South Africans who can (or want to) comment on the SA U/17 girl's at the Youth Olympics? I saw Jonathan Cook's article on FieldHockey.com and was wondering if there is anything to be said!!!

I think the girl's team coach Rob Pullen said it all in the interview with Jon Cook.

Even though the team had played and won the Africa qualifier in February, quote "They have all come in to the event with poor fitness and training/match preparation." unquote. And he also takes some of the blame for the team's results (which is rare in a coach!!!).

    Robbie Pullen is a legend

it really is a pity we can't get more on TV - hopefully with the EHL gaining popularity it may flow over to our broadcasters

more interest in hockey can only do the sport in SA good.

i was chatting to one of the lighties i train the other day and i asked her if she wanted to be a Springbok and she replied "No". When i asked why she told me there was no national pride as we are (and i quote) "a bunch of losers"

such a pity that this is the future that out youth see.

there are also some brief highlights incl at least 1 SAF game on youtube

coverage of the hockey tournament has been shameful

here they have concentrated a lot on the football where they seem to have unvited the world worst U15 national teams to try to give the hosts a chance of a medal. They failed though
How can an olympics be fought for by

    Vanuatu
    Bolivia
    Haiti
    Montenegro
    Zimbabwe
    Singapore

yes teh venue is awesome its where they played teh junior world cup last year but for the YOG they have improved it with a higher stand etc,
the problem here the hockey far from being world class

we moan about how far away those pitches are being right at the North of the Island opposite Malaysia
but it still only takes most people 30 minutes by taxi to get there

the main stand is also the new office of the SHF. hopefully it will cast a bit of shadow on what used to be pitch 2 but I think they will now call pitch 1. It was very exposed to the sun last season which is not fun in this climate.
